St. George, Utah has become one of America’s favorite year-round destinations. Conveniently located on Interstate 15 between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City, St. George is surrounded by scenic natural wonders and even some excellent golf courses. In the St. George area you’ll find 10 great courses with several championship level courses, some of which are rated the best in Utah. Winter daytime temperatures in St. George are regularly in the 60’s and even low 70’s which makes for great days in the outdoors for hiking, mountain biking, or even sunning by the pool. The elevation of St. George, Utah is 2,800 feet and is close to the lowest elevations in all of Utah. Clouds seem to zoom right over the top of St. George and drop their precipitation in the neighboring mountains and as a result, skies are almost always blue.

Shopping is excellent at the Zion Factory Stores, the Promenade at Red Cliffs, Red Cliffs Mall, and a myriad of boutiques, antique shops and art galleries. Protected within Zion National Park is a spectacular cliff-and-canyon landscape and wilderness full of the unexpected including Kolob Arch - the world's largest arch - with a span that measures 310 feet. Zion National Park is full of beautiful colors, scenery and wildlife. Wildlife such as mule deer, golden eagles, and mountain lions, also inhabit the canyons. The sandstone which makes up most of the rock in Zion National Park was formed by the compacting of sand about 150 million years ago. Dunes were, at that time, formed into the present day Navajo Sandstone. The next stage of creation occurred when streams began to carve notches into the plateau. As the river flowed through current area of Zion National Park, it eroded the rock away taking boulders, sand, and pebbles with it. Over time it formed, or rather carved the canyons of Zion National Park that we see today.

Great flows of lava in more recent geologic history have poured over the cliffs and down through the park creating large fields of lava and even some caves to explore. Red and white sandstone formations rise sometimes over 1,500 feet above the valley floor and many trails take you into the side canyons. There are even some sand dunes for the kids to roll around on or to explore. Snow Canyon is spectacular and easy to get to. It is also close to the Tuacahn Outdoor Amphitheater where you’ll find some great theatrical productions in one of the most unique settings in the world.
